Disaster Relief - What Can You Do?
It’s hard to believe the destruction that nature can wreak; however, we know that it happens. That being said, there are several things we can do:
1) PRAY. Pray for those whose lives have been [and will be] impacted by disasters. Please also pray for Early Response Teams, disaster coordinators, and the many volunteers who are working tirelessly to provide relief.
2) MAKE RELIEF KITS. There are two types of kits we are accepting. One is the hygiene kit and the other is the cleaning kit (bucket). The kit assembly instructions, packing list, and shipping label are available at http://www.umcor.org/UMCOR/Relief-Supplies (the packing list and shipping label link is to the right side of the webpage.) If you would like to put together a kit and bring it to Wesley UMC, it will be taken to the relief supply hub in Parkton. This will allow you to save shipping costs, and the kits will get shipped to the disaster areas at no additional cost.
3) GIVE. Give to UMCOR’s Material Resources Advance (#901440). This is for the enhancement of purchase of emergency response and disaster relief supplies. Visit UMCOR’s donation link for this Advance: http://www.umcor.org/search-for-projects/. Once there, click on the blue box labeled “RELIEF-SUPPLY KITS.”
4) ACCEPT THE CALL TO VOLUNTEER! If you are interested in being part of a mission team, please contact the Wesley UMC Office at wesley@wesleychurch-hampstead.org.
Thank you for being the hands and feet of Christ.
May the Lord go with these efforts and allow them to plant and
grow the seeds of faith in all who participate. Amen.
The United Methodist Committee on Relief is also supported by a Special Sunday of giving called UMCOR Sunday in March.
